MODULE 03 — BEYOND TEXT · 12 AI Concepts

Tool use

The model cannot check the weather. It can only write down a request for someone else to check it — and that distinction is the whole design.

Ask it something

The problem it explains

Its only output is text

the model produces tokens · nothing else text IT CANNOT CROSS THIS send an email query the database book the room read today’s prices run the deploy so the text it writes is a request and your code does the doing

How it works

Notice, ask, resume

“is it raining there?” memory only not in there
Notice the gapThe answer is live, private or computed — none of which live in the weights.
tool: get_weather city: “Kochi” — still just text it wrote a form, not an action
Write the requestA small structured form: which tool, and with what arguments.
22°C, clear onto the desk, above the question the real answer
ResumeIt reads the result off the desk and answers ordinarily. No magic in this step.

The part people miss

Who actually runs the tool

the model asks your code decides · validates · refuses logs · asks a human EVERY CONTROL LIVES HERE the real tool does the thing result returns to the desk A model with tools has no more power than the code that chooses to honour its requests.

So what

Everything an AI “does” in the world happens because something outside it agreed to act on a sentence it wrote.
